Hagbaha class
Tuesday, November 18, 2025 • 27 Cheshvan 5786
6:30 PM - 7:30 PMHagbaha means "lifting the Torah" and is the ritual in a synagogue where a person lifts the Torah scroll high after it has been read so that the congregation can see the Hebrew script. The person who is lifting the Torah is known as the Magbia. It is a position of honor that symbolizes the shared heritage of the Torah and is performed to ensure everyone has a chance to see it.
If you ever wondered how to do the Hagbaha or wanted to give it a try, this is your opportunity:
Our member Ephraim Seidman will help and guide you in the practice of lifting the Torah on November 20th, 6:00-7:00pm. Or Atid needs more magbihim (plural of Magia) in our services, and this is a great honor and mitzvah for those of you who can perform it. Please join us
