Rabbi Hal Schevitz, who prefers to be called "Rabbi Hal," combines a love for Jewish heritage and Torah with a commitment to helping his community find modern relevance in Judaic traditions and texts.

A Jewish educator at heart, Rabbi Hal readily applies his vast teaching experience to the pulpit and engages everyone from youth through adulthood.

He is a graduate of the University of Maryland at College Park, and later earned a Masters of Arts in Jewish Education and a Masters of Arts in Jewish Studies from Baltimore Hebrew University.  He was ordained at the Rabbinical School of Hebrew College in Newton, Massachusetts in June, 2013. Before coming to Or Atid, Rabbi Hal served as the assistant rabbi of Congregation Beth-El Zedeck, in Indianapolis, Indiana, a dual-affiliated Conservative-Reconstructionist synagogue. He is married to his lovely wife Jena.

Rabbi Hal's services are uplifting and engaging.  His upbeat melodies add vibrancy and new meaning to prayer.  His compassionate pastoral counseling provides comfort and healing to people in need.
